Christmas Around the World Part 2

The past two days have been so much fun. The kids have been so engaged and well behaved because they are having fun.  I love when they are learning and don't even realize it! :)

Here are some of the things we have been up to!

Here are some pictures of our suitcases.

When we visit a country, the students receive the country's flag to color and glue on their suitcase.

On Monday, we began by talking about traditions in our family and in America.  We made Tangram Christmas Trees.

Today, we spent the day in Hawaii.  I went to Hawaii this summer to visit my sister and brother in law (He is in the Air Force stationed at Hickam).  So I fell in LOVE with Hawaii and  I wanted to bring the rich culture to my students.

I created a Smartboard Lesson all about Christmas in Hawaii,  including pictures, videos and fun facts. The students loved the video I showed of Bing Crosby's Mele Kalikimaka, they begged me to play it several times. We also listened to a Hawaiian version of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" and compared the two. Since we were pretending to visit Hawaii, we had to make leis!

By far my favorite time of the day was Skypeing with my sister in Hawaii!  The students loved it!  They had so many great questions to ask her about Christmas in Hawaii.  As well as some silly ones like "Do you have cable?".

Mele Kalikimaka and Aloha!
