Last week we began our unit on Objects in the Sky. I love Science, and I love this unit. I have lots of fun things planned, but I wanted to show you guys what one thing we did last week. Phases of the Moon is always hard to grasp for some reason (and honestly, sometimes I forget too).My fabulous friend, Elisabeth, found this wonderful idea on Pinterest. Definitely go check out her blog, she's awesome! The students showed the different phases of the moon using Oreos. They loved it...and not just the fact that they got to eat Oreos! They were so excited to twist apart their oreo and have a crescent moon! I never thought I would hear them excited to say, "Look a waning gibbous!" :)
I forgot to take a picture of the finished product, before it was gobbled up by hungry third grader! Check out the great idea on Pinterest.
Don't go completely off this image though! The waning cycle is backwards!
