Workshoppin' and Fraction Review

So today was a workday.  Did I get much work done? I don't feel like it.

I started off the day by visiting a school in a neighboring county to see their implementation of the Math Series Investigations.  I love visiting other schools and seeing how other teachers teach.  (One of the main reasons I love blogging).  The only part about this visit that I didn't fully enjoy, was that I had to be there at 7:30!  Leaving the house at 6:45 on a workday is not high on my list of favorite things.  It was by far worth it though!

When I finally got to my school I worked on my reading plans "vision". I call it vision, because I got zero plans done, but I know what direction I am going in now.  Like I mentioned the other day I am completely dropping the basal readers and sticking to the Workshop Model exclusively with a little bit of skill-focused shared reading.  I am excited to start it next Tuesday and I can't wait to share what we do with you guys! If you have any ideas or tidbits about your experience with workshop, let me know!

Next week we are finishing up fractions so we need to spend some time reviewing.  I made a set of "Out of This World" Fraction Games with a super cute alien theme.  It is a pack of 5 games covering:
Equal Parts
Naming Fractions of a Whole
Naming Fractions of a Group
Comparing Fractions
Equivalent Fractions
Each game also includes a follow up worksheet for the students to complete independently.

It is up on my TpT store for $3.50, but I'll give it to the first two people who comment and share how they teach reading.  Do you use the basal? Workshop? Novel Studies? Don't forget to leave your email if you are one of the first two! :)

Happy FRIDAY!!! :)

  3. Just missed being #2, but that's okay! Next week, I'll be starting to teach fractions to my third graders, so your games will be the perfect addition to my math games binder!

And, just in case you still want to know, I teach reading through guided reading groups and reading stations that are based off of the Daily 5 choices. I'm planning to do a post on my reading routine soon, because there are a few things I'd like to tweak, so I hope to get some good ideas and other teachers' input out of it!

    Have a happy weekend!
