And another one's gone, and another one's gone.
You know you were singing it too!
So, I've been at this blogging game for about 6 months now and I have been wanting to host a linky party. I was scared though. I still am a little. What if no one links up? What if the idea is stupid? What if no one knows that song?
So anyway, I just decided to do it. So here it is...
Another school year that is.
I still have a 19 days of school left, I know some of you guys are almost done! Even with only 4 weeks of school, I'm still thinking ahead to next year and reflecting on what went well this year, and what didn't go so well.
(I feel like my college professors with all this reflecting...)
(I feel like my college professors with all this reflecting...)
So the whole point in this little linky party/get together/who-ha is to share the great and the not-so great of the year!
The Great:
1. Reading Workshop!
I am so glad that I really implemented Reading Workshop this year! I have seen my kiddos become such better readers and thinkers. I can't wait to see how it shows on the test! Thanks Lucy!
2. Problem-Based Math Lessons
I have loved making my math lessons more interactive, meaningful and more fun for my kiddos.
Comparing Fraction Pizzas
Measuring with inches and feet
Recording & Graphing "Basketball" Data
3. Collaborating with Colleagues at School and through Blogging
Becoming a blog stalker/blogger has genuinely made me a better teacher. Not only have I found TONS of fabulous ideas to integrate in my day, but it stirs up my creativity and I'm always constantly changing things up in my classroom. I think I've always been an innovative teacher, but blogging has really amped that up! I mean, I have to have something interesting to put on my blog!

The Not So Great
1. Guided Reading
Um, yeah. Every year I say that I am going to do guided reading. I do it. Some. I really want to be much more consistent about it, especially with Common Core starting next year in NC. My problem is that I never have time to plan it. That's a lame excuse. So I'm going to try to get ahead of the game and try planning a lot of it this summer.

2. Organized and Neat Classroom
Remember when I posted way back when, about joining the Clutter Free Classroom Challenge? That didn't last long. I really want a neat and organized classroom. It's not bad, it just needs some TLC. Honestly, I need to get rid of a lot of junk that's been there for years. Pinterest is really helping me out with this one. Here are a few ideas for next year...
I want to do a Hawaiian Theme next year!
What a great idea. I want to have one each spot for each student though.
Love this reading area!
3. Parent Communication.
This one isn't horrible. I do talk to my parents pretty often. I want to be more consistent about sending out a weekly newsletter. (I haven't in 2 weeks. Whoops!) Thanks to Ginger Snaps, for sharing some already made newsletters! I have no excuse now!I also want to be better about updating my school website. I mean I blog constantly, why can't I just hop over and update it! Hello, Amber.
So, there's the great and not-so-great of my year. So, the whole point in this little linky is to share what we are experts at, and hopefully help each other in the areas that we are struggling!
So here's what you do to link up!
Grab the graphic. Link Back to this Post. Then List 3 things that were Great and 3 things that were Not-So-Great about this school year.

I like this link. . . I do think I can join this one! But the problem is I could just copy yours exactly word for word except the Hawaiian theme! I do everything you do . . . so if we are alike, there must be others who feel as we do!
ReplyDeleteI'll work on joining this sometime this week.

I have had a beach classroom for the last 3 years. This is the best time of year to get "hawaiian"/beach themed stuff because it's in season. check out the dollar store!
ReplyDeleteI was just showering thinking of doing a similar idea, but calling it "the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!" Then I logged onto Blogged and saw someone's post for this Linky Party! I'll definitely be blogging about this!
ReplyDeleteI have the same issue every year about guided reading! But I figured out how to force myself to do it... I posted a schedule of who I was meeting with Monday through Friday. There's nothing like a group of five students saying "You're supposed to meet with me today!" to keep you on top of your planning!
Looking forward to linking up and to following your blog... clearly great minds think alike!
