Classroom Reveal 2013-2014!!

Well tomorrow is officially the day... the first day of school!

I have a little announcement to make.  Tomorrow I will no longer be sharing the adventures of a third grade teacher.  Tomorrow will be my first day teaching fourth grade!  I am so stoked.  I have loved teaching fourth grade for the past four years, but I am so excited for a change.  Since I'm changing grade levels, this blog is going to have a name change! I might even be planning a giveaway for the announcement! :)

So here is a look into my brand new fourth grade classroom!  Even looking at these pictures I realized there are still a few things I need to do! It's a never ending job ladies and gentlemen.  Switching grade levels, changing rooms and a love of summer make me feel a little less prepared than I would like to be, but I'm still in love with my room!

The View from the front of my room. I have 26 students! AHHH!

I'll be teaching NC History, so this is my NC History Board

Class Rules and Calendar.  The How Do We Get Home Chart and broom is hidden behind the door when it's open.

Adorable name tags from Hope King's Pack. You'll be seeing several things from her Patterns Chalkboard Decor Pack!

A place for anchor charts to hang.

Numbered Hooks for Bookbags

Didn't my mom make me the most awesome curtains ever??

Word Wall on the cabinets!

View from the back of the classroom. Ladybug Teacher Files adorable alphabet and Motivational Sayings from Miss Nelson are above the board.

I'll be hanging the I can Statements from the ribbon.

A place to hang student work. I just laminated stationary paper and hot glued a clothespin.

My favorite. My classroom library! These are all my fiction books.  Love the IKEA rug and Lamp from Dollar General!

Here are my nonfiction books. Love the Really Good Stuff Baskets in lime green and purple.

Genre Subway Art. I LOVE These!

Individual Student Boxes from RGS. They aren't labeled yet, because I wanted to let the kiddos choose what color they wanted.

Small Group Table with IKEA seats. Also, do you see that little white table back there with the black basket on top? It is the most adorable chevron table...see this is the top....

My mom found this for me. ADORABLE.

It's a little dark but I made this pennant with scrapbook paper that I laminated.  I put it together with chevron duct tape.  It's not in my other pictures because it fell down about 20 minutes before Meet The Teacher!  I need to hot glue it back up after school this week! :)

Cute Scholastic Posters!

I still love my little blue chair and painted stool from last year!

I made these today to add to the front of my tables. Sadly, we can't hang from the ceiling!

I'm going to give these to the kids at the end of the day tomorrow.  Normally I make a little treat like this for orientation.  But.....the night before we had orientation I went to see the Backstreet Boys with my BFF Elisabeth and the treats didn't get done!

Be sure to go check out some other awesome classrooms!

So tomorrow is the big day.  I have ten of the same students from last year and I am so excited to be teaching them again, as well as 16 brand new students!  It was so fun to see soooo many familiar faces at Orientation.

I already know I won't be able to sleep tonight. This will be my sixth year teaching and I still get the First Day Jitters! Wish me luck!

Common Core Fold-Its, a Giveaway and a Sale!

Happy Saturday! It's my last Saturday before I officially go back to work. Ahhhh! Where did summer go?  I know a lot of you are already back in school, but it is still hurting to know that I have to go back. I'm excited for a new year though.  I have a good feeling about it.

I have been hard at work on my newest product and I am so excited to finally have it uploaded at TPT.  It has been a labor of love that I've been working on for months. You guys know my love for fold-its, and this product will be great if you love them too!

This file contains over 60 fold-its for students to record their thinking about any text. The fold-its cover all Informational and Literature Standards for 2nd-5th grade, as well as a couple Language standards!

These can be used whole group, small group, or independently! You can use them anytime students are working with a text. I have included 2nd-5th grade concepts so you can reach the students at the exact level that they may need, by remediating or enriching!

The great thing about a lot of these fold-its, is that you can use them over again with a different text!

I used some of them last year with my class and I cannot wait to use them again this year.  I used some of the informational fold-its whole group during shared reading, science and social studies. The students also used them during reading workshop with their independent reading.
If you are interested, you can check it out at my TPT Store! :)

Be sure to download the preview because there is a full grade level alignment and a FREEBIE included!

Have you heard?

I'm participating too! My whole store will be 20% off, and with the TPT code BTS13, you can get an extra 10% off! How cool is that!

I have a ton of things on my wishlist so I am excited! :)

One last thing, you know how I like to giveaway my newest products, so I'm going to give one copy away! Enter in the rafflecopter below! It ends tomorrow night at midnight.

CHAMPS Freebie

I am finally getting into the swing of things. I went on my last trip of the summer this weekend and my classroom is close to ready. And it isonly 70 degrees today.  It's starting to feel like Fall!

This summer I went to a three day training about CHAMPS and our new Intervention System in our County, incorporating PBIS and RTI.  So this is my first year of implementing some of the CHAMPS behavior strategies at school. I am pretty excited!  One key component is the CHAMPS Plans for Activities in Your Class.

If you are using this in your classroom, you use the CHAMPS acronym to define detailed behavioral expectations for each activity you have in your class (workshop, carpet time, small group, etc). Here is the CHAMPs acronym along with questions to ask yourself for developing each structured activity.

  • Conversation: Can students converse during this activity? About what? With whom? For how long?
  • Help: How do students get your attention for help? How do students get questions answered? What should they do while they wait for you?
  • Activity: What is the expected end product of this activity? What is the task or objective?
  • Movement: For what reasons can students get out of their seats during this activity? Do they need permission to do so?
  • Participation: What behavior shows that students are participating or not participating?
  • Success: There are no questions for this one. When CHAMPS expectations are met, students will be successful.
Here is an example of my CHAMPS plan for Reading Workshop

C: Whisper Voice, Reading Partner, No more than a Minute
H: Raise your Hand when I am not with a group
A: Reading Independently and working in reader's notebook
M: Responsible Movement
P: Focused on Assignment

As teachers, we already have these expectations in our mind, but laying them out like this for the students helps them know what we want. If you are implementing CHAMPS it's important for the students to clearly know what is expected.  I created a CHAMPS chart to hang in my classroom to help me!

I will be using clothespins to show the students what the expectaion is.  It was too big to get a clear shot, but good news...

I created it as a freebie with an editable version too! :)
Click on the picture below to download.

Have you implemented CHAMPS in the past? I'd love to hear about it, since this will be my first year.

August, Seriously?

Wow, how is it already August?  I might be a few days late with linking up with Currently but I've been gone all weekend hanging out with some awesome blogger ladies in Greenville! I'll share more about that later! :)

Listening-Enough Said

Love- What teacher, or anyone for that matter, doesn't love IKEA?? I'm lucky enough to only be 30 minutes from the Charlotte IKEA. I went a month ago but I forgot these cute stools for my Small Group Table.

So I went back today and bought 6. I also decided to buy this rug.
How cute?!

Thinking- OMG. I have about a thousand things to do.  But I have a bad habit of watching Investigation Discovery, or going out of town, or watching Netflix. Seriously I have got to get with it.

Wanting- I have been out of town a lot this summer and I need some recup time. I still have two weeks before I have to report to work, but the next two weeks are filled with optional school things, as well as working like a mad woman in my room!  I have a Technology Conference to go to tomorrow, so no sleeping in here!

Needing- A clone, see comments above.

B2S Must haves. I am obsessed with books. Like for real.  Having a great classroom library is a must, I love Sharpies.  I see lots of late nights in my future.  My Keurig will save me.

Have a great week! :)
